Pedestrian Killed in South Orange

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ —A fatal accident last night left one pedestrian dead, says South Orange Police. A 65-year-old man died after he was hit by a car near the Mountain train station.

The South Orange resident was on the sidewalk when a 2012 Nissan traveling east on West Montrose Avenue apparently ran over the sidewalk, striking him, police said. The driver was a 55-year-old woman.

The pedestrian was taken to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead after a few hours.

South Orange police and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the incident.

The names of the victim and the drivers were not disclosed.
